How Do You Putt on a Golf Simulator?

Aug 30, 2023

How do you putt on a golf simulator?

While some higher-end simulator setups can account for putting, the typical setup has an automatic putting system built into it. The golf simulator software will analyze the distance and difficulty of the putt and then provide an accurate estimation of the amount of putts it would take you to get in. a 50 foot putt may automatically count as a three putt while a 15 footer will be two putts, and so on.

This can really help you hone in your short game and approach shots as the closer to the hole you are, the less strokes the game will automatically add o.

However, this doesn’t mean that you aren’t able to work on your putting at home. We build home golf simulator studios that can include a putting surface for you to work on your shortgame in the offseason.

A golf simulator is made up of quite a few components that all work together to make the system function seamlessly.

How a golf simulator works

Simply put, a golf simulator utilizes all of the above golf simulator components to read your golf swing and simulate it on the screen. This all starts with the launch monitor which is a piece of technology made specifically to analyze your golf swing metrics.

A golf simulator launch monitor can read just about every metric of your swing possible, including:

  • Clubhead speed
  • Ball speed
  • Launch angle
  • Spin rate
  • Carry distance
  • Total distance

The launch monitor then sends these metrics to the computer setup which is running a golf simulator software which converts the data into a realistic golf shot. This image is then sent from the computer to the projector which appears on the impact screen in front of you. All of this happens within a few seconds, creating a seamless golfing experience in the comfort of your home.
